Short-Term Psychotherapy
James Walker
The focus of short-term psychotherapy is on immediate concerns such as anxiety, depression, weight issues, trauma, habits, relationship problems, and life changes.
I use a blend of approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy, depth psychology, interpersonal psychotherapy, and hypnosis. These evidence-based approaches promote lasting and positive changes.
We can meet in East Melbourne or via Zoom. Our sessions are always confidential.
Please contact me to discuss any aspect of my work and how it may help.

After teaching in Melbourne I studied, lectured, and practised in the United States . My initial psychotherapy training was in Gestalt therapy and psychoanalysis which I practised in the USA and then in Melbourne. Professor Perry London, a pioneer in child hypnosis, guided my initial work and with whom I later published. Returning to Australia, I completed the four year program with the Australian Centre of Psychoanalysis, and Melbourne University’s hypnosis program with Professor Graham Burrows, during which I researched hypnosis applications for anxiety in sport.
