Program 1: Navigating Influence with young people

Family, friends, social media, school, sport, work and the wider community all shape how young people think, feel, behave and understand themselves. These influences are interconnected. What happens in one part of a young person's life can affect their relationships, confidence, choices and wellbeing in other areas. Wellbeing is more than the absence of mental illness but both effect the person today and can have major effects on later life.

This presentation explores the many environments which innfluence young people’s development today and can have lasting effects thoughout life. Some influences strengthen belonging, resilience and healthy decision-making. Others can contribute to stress, conflict, uncertainty and mental health difficulties.  Recognising when a young person may be experiencing difficulties.

2.        Youth Mental Health – This could be half day Helping adults understand the influences shaping young people's lives, recognise mental health difficulties and create environments in which young people can develop and thrive. Understanding wellbeing in an uncertain world what can happen and how do we know Family, friends, social media, education, work, sport, community and the wider culture all influence how they think, feel, behave and understand themselves.

Understanding young people's wellbeing means looking beyond the individual to consider the relationships and environments in which they live

These influences interact in complicated ways. They can provide belonging, confidence, opportunity and resilience. They can also contribute to uncertainty, stress, isolation and mental health difficulties.

3.        Mental Health First Aid – accredited training 2 days

Developing the knowledge and confidence to recognise mental health difficulties, approach someone sensitively and provide appropriate initial support.
